Global Connectivity: World Regions

South Caucasus

The FP7-funded HP-SEE project (High-Performance Computing Infrastructure for South East Europe’s Research Communities) provides 45-Mbps links between GÉANT and AzRENA (Azerbaijan) and NAS RA (Armenia) in the Black Sea.

HP-SEE has succeeded the Black Sea Interconnection project in providing connectivity between Europe and the South Caucasus. Co-funded by the European Union, the Black Sea Interconnection [BSI] ran from the spring of 2009 until late 2010 and provided connectivity for a regional network of the NRENs in Armenia (NAS RA), Azerbaijan (AzRENA) and Georgia (GRENA) with an interconnection with GÉANT. The project was managed by ULAKBIM (Turkish NREN) with assistance from GRNET (Greek NREN), CEENet (Central and Eastern European Networking Association) and DANTE.
