ICT: GÉANT Participation

This biennial event has become a unique gathering point for researchers, business people, investors, and high level policy makers in the field of digital innovation. ICT 2010 will focus on policy priorities such as Europe's Digital Agenda and the next financial programme of the European Union for funding research and innovation in ICT. ICT will take place on 27-29 September 2010 at Brussels Expo (Heysel).
The GÉANT booth is located in Zone R4: ICT connects, booth number 3273.

GÉANT plays an important role at ICT and will be represented throughout the event in the following ways;

BELNET connect ICT Event via GÉANT
GÉANT and BELNET support ICT2010 Event with the sponsorship of the connectivity to the event at the Brussels Expo. Delegates will be connected to GÉANT via BELNET, the Belgian national research network.

GÉANT Exhibition Trail
Why not take part in the GÉANT Exhibition Trail? – A fun way to learn more about GÉANT and the networks, projects and initiatives it works with, pick up a trail sheet from the GÉANT booth to join the trail.

GÉANT Exhibition Booth
There will be lots to see at the GÉANT booth where we will to showcase the project's different activities, that will include;

GÉANT – Making the Difference
GÉANT serves research communities; here we will show the following user demonstrations and case studies;

Demonstration
neuGRID - Work on Alzheimer’s disease research by building a new user-friendly grid-based research e-Infrastructure (neuGRID), where the collection/archiving of large amounts of imaging data is paired with computationally intensive data analyses.

GÉANT Network, Services and Research
The GÉANT project has activities dedicated to operating and developing the network, pursuing research into the best networking technologies, and delivers connectivity and application services over the GÉANT Service Area. Two services in particular will be featured:
Bandwidth on Demand
perfSONAR network monitoring tool
  GÉANT Green Team Workshop

The GÉANT Green Team will be exploring “green” networking technologies, tools and applications through a workshop.  It will showcase how networks can have beneficial synergies with green technologies. GÉANT Green Team members are from four European GÉANT project partner networks: HEAnet, PSNC, and NORDUnet.
Using a mix of onsite and VC presentations, the 90-minute workshop will examine two aspects of green networking:

  • How networks can measure and understand their carbon footprint
  • How networking technology can mitigate carbon emissions amongst the research and education community.
